New York January 11 district attorney Jerome announces more arrests may be made in the investigation of the affairs of the New York Life Insurance Co. The disclosure ties a Lorain safe burglary to ongoing fraud inquiries.
Three men attempted to steal from the Barrows Milling Company safe in Lorain between 2 and 3 am. An explosion from nitro glycerine tore the safe door and a strong box entrance, but officers including Henry Meister arrived, forcing the burglars to flee toward the viaduct. Police arrested three men nearby. no substantial loot found as most receipts were banked earlier. The trio is kept for investigation as Lorain police deem them expert safe blowers.
Tokyo reports the Japanese government will cancel planned Pacific coast training squadron visits due to anti-Japanese agitation. The unit will proceed no further than Honolulu, stopping short of the Pacific coast.
A curious evidence laden piece cites Superintendent Comings supporting simplified spelling as a school reform. It notes Pope Pius XII as recipient of most of Michael Heffernan’s estate, valued around $40,000, with $500 to the church head. Heffernan left no bequests to wife or children.

A Penfield man charged with shooting his wife shows marked improvement. McAlpine, jailed, slept well and faces grand jury exposure with about 15 other cases. Prosecutor Stevens plans the subpoenas while not committing to a saloon crackdown. sheriff not speaking.
Leads recount that about 100 quarry workers were sworn in as deputy sheriffs during a 1890 strike at Berea when guards fled. The men, later misled about their status, claim two and a half years of wages. County lawyers say sworn deputies after the sheriff’s term are not entitled to pay, ending any hoped county funds.
The will for Mary Dute of Amherst is filed for probate. Catherine Eschtiith receives 25 dollars as a final gift, while August Dute gets 150 dollars. Harvey Jacob and Casper Dute each receive 196 dollars, and Harvey Dute obtains the household goods. The remainder is divided among the children equally, excluding Catherine, with grandchildren Amelia and Ethel Dute receiving their late father's share. John Dute is deceased.
Akron date line reports Mr and Mrs Henry Blymiller of Franklin township welcomed their eighth child after a stork visit. Six years ago the family had triplets, two boys and a girl, then two years later another set of triplets, but this time only two babies arrived, bringing the total to five boys and three girls. The mother is recovering well and the babies are healthy. Blymiller plans photographing the family and sending a picture to President Roosevelt as a sign of Summit county’s Rooseveltian beefs. Evangelist Rev Reuben A Torrey cites strong Bible promises at Moody church as Chicago reforms. He frames prayer as linked to living faith in Christ and urges repentance before moving to Cleveland for a new series. Lisle E. Garnett sues the C. & 5S. W. in common pleas for 25000 alleging negligence at Rockport power house in July 1906. He, a pit man, claims a live overhead wire injured his left hand while signaling a locomotive during flat car switching, due to uninsulated wires and lack of warning.
Lyman Olliver of Painesville is hospitalized in Cleveland with a broken neck after slipping while trimming a tree. He fell five feet, struck his head, and is paralyzed below the waist. Doctors hold out hope for recovery.
