Dan Webster, a private in the First United States Infantry, was found unconscious in his West Second Street room after a reported escaping gas odor. William B Ward, regarded as insane and recently sent by Judge Hinman to Toledo, announced several times he is Jesus Christ, gave away money to the Salvation Army and others, and climbed a telegraph pole on Sunday in a bid for heaven. He has been divorced from his wife for months and his mental state follows trouble with the invention of a heating device. Guards have been sought for Ward and Mary Brown Beck, an alleged member of Ashorst, are noted in the report. The Twining will in Lenmetta was admitted to probate with Fred A Twining of Selon and Alva P Twining of Kipton as executors. The LOBA installed officers in St. Marys and hosted a social with about 250 attendees.

Old Mrs. Gregg died at the county house Monday and was buried Tuesday morning after living with G Jones of Sugar Ridge and later with her grandson Harvey Gregg.
George Maxon longtime rail worker for the Grand Trunk and Western and the Baltimore Ohio died Sunday at Lake Side Hospital Cleveland. He started as a gravel train man for O and W and worked 23 years in service. His last run began January 18 when rheumatic pain struck. he continued to his train and died after being taken to hospital. Barney Marburger, a farmer from near Avon, went to Cleveland and returned to find his team unattended near the market house. Arrested by a patrolman at nine, the wagon remained on site until two. Judge Feilder fined Marburger twenty five dollars and costs and sentenced him to thirty days. Friends later took possession of the meat and produce.
The attorney general states that Gallipolis hospital for epileptics employees on state pay rolls cannot be garnished and advises officials to ignore such proceedings. The State is sovereign, Sheets declares. The notice appears in a Tuesday night item.

Elyria introduced writer Frank J Paul reports the death of Harwood R Pool, an Elyria native who practiced law in New York. Pool, brother of the unnamed Elyria contributor, died after a brief illness at his home in New York. Burial planned in Elyria later. Pool was OSU roommate, Lantern founder, noted as a bright college leader.
Judge A KR Webber dissolves the temporary injunction preventing KoA Anit from acting as chief of the Lorain fire department. Edward Essig had sought the restraining order, but the court will pursue quo warranto proceedings. Essig’s victory appears to trigger immediate court action.

Health Officer French submits 1903 figures to the state board noting 120 total deaths in Elyria. Contagious diseases include four smallpox, fourteen diphtheria, twenty scarlet fever, and fifty six measles. Two deaths attributed to diphtheria. Furnished rooms for rent and plasterers to meet January 4 at 7:30 am.
Local shoe stores sign a pact to close daily at 6 30 pm from January 4 1904 to April 1 1904 except Saturdays The agreement is signed by J F Collins Teasdale and Sawyer Geo W Philpott and Co R B Cleveland Mrs Jas F Flower W H Barnes and Wm C Smith with date January 10.
