Councilman Faxon plans to introduce in the city council within weeks an ordinance to abolish smoke nuisance and require smoke consumers in all factories. The Cleveland ordinance will be closely followed, after discussions with the service board at its Monday meeting.
Wesley Weller became street commissioner succeeding J. T. Houghton at a board of public service meeting. He will earn 73 dollars monthly and must provide his own wagon. Several salaries and positions were raised or created including waterworks chief, city engineer, clerk, and new sewer and later inspector role. no new appointment until spring.
The Terra Cotta collision between the Baltimore and Ohio rear end wreck on Sunday night now has an estimated dead count of 53 with about 60 injuries. The two day coaches and the smoker were demolished and several seriously injured are believed to die overnight.
G G Leonard once a millionaire wheat speculator known as Judge Leonard died at the county poor farm in Spangle Washington. Born in New York 53 years ago he rose in Chicago during the wheat corner era and later faced decline linked to drink. he leaves a son who runs a Birmingham steel mill and a daughter married to a California professor.
New Year's Day marks the creation of a law firm in this city named Stroup and Fauver with L. B. Fauver and Lee Stroup as partners. Fauver, a bankruptcy referee, and Stroup, ex-county prosecutor and school board member, bring notable success to the venture. Their offices occupy the second floor of the Shap block.
The city plans condemnation to secure a Lot on East River Street owned by Thomas Gray if terms are not accepted. Gray initially sought 3800 dollars, then 3200. The board offered 1500 and said if not accepted by next Monday noon, the matter will go to court.
In Cleveland yesterday a license to wed was granted to Daniel D. Granger of Elyria and Emma Cole, 24, of Lakewood. The ceremony was held last evening at the bride’s home. Granger is known in Elyria for his work with Conry and Mueller grocers. The couple will reside in Elyria.
John F. Hoover of Milwaukee and Mahala Ling of Johnstown met on a Pennsylvania railroad train in Harrisburg on December 31 and were married soon after by a Harrisburg alderman.
The Department plans six thousand offices to receive stamps printed with town and state names after the new year. The change aims to deter robberies by easy identification and aid tracking of office business, as in Chicago theft cases where stolen stamps could not be traced. The reform should simplify proving office workload and encourage cities to publicize their names nationally.
The HGH girls will discontinue the basketball team due to insufficient patronage. A deficit of $6 in expenses arose after the recent game against Norwalk.

Town lists house fixture rates including extra closets baths sinks wash basins sill cock and faucets and notes no credit for occupied properties unless notified of disconnection.

Lawrence urged fathers to protect their families. State Manager Mason Smith reviewed the order’s recent growth and progress. A banquet followed the speeches.

John D Rockefeller extended New Year greetings and donated nearly 2.918 million dollars to the University of Chicago without warning. The gift increases his eighteen year total to 21.324 million dollars in support of the university and its programs.
Judge Wasabura begins a two week vacation today taking a short trip to Washington and nearby points with his family. He has worked hard during this term at court and deserves the rest the trip affords.
