Milton Poet, a Lorain negro indicted by the last grand jury for assault and battery against Robert Wallace, fled a damages suit claiming Wallace struck first over wood along a railway right of way. Poet says Wallace insulted him and struck with a machete, forcing him to defend himself. he seeks dismissal of Wallace’s petition and 36,000 in damages.

Oil Man Denies He Owes 22.50 in Court Plea
In a cross petition filed in the court of common pleas C A Wright claims he managed a Standard Oil branch in Elyria from April to July 1902 for O E Rankin. He says he worked 100 hours and earned valuing his service at 144 dollars, denying Rankin's suit for 22.50 while noting 180 dollars is still due. Elyria reports no contagious diseases and sanitation officer Brannan noted the last card Friday.
