Freight Agent Mapes Retires After Thirty Years Service

George Mapes, longtime freight agent for the LS and MS at Elyria, retires after thirty years in the role. He began as an operator at Bollesua, later moving to Alysa in 1673, and earned a pension of 60 percent. The retirement is marked by a silver shaving set presentation from the freight depot staff.

Davies named head of Lorain Steel audit unit

H M Davies is appointed head of the auditing department at Lorain Steel Company of Pennsylvania and will start tomorrow at the Seventeenth ward office. He brings three or four former Lorain audit staffers. Lorain offices will stay in Philadelphia and President Coolidge will headquarter there.

Man Dies After Fall From Wagon Near Spancer Farm

On a winter Tuesday a Permar of Spancer fell from a wagon en route to his son in law Simon Browand’s farm and died shortly after. A funeral was held at the ME church on Thursday with Rev Flemming preaching. He leaves a widow two daughters one brother and four grandchildren. He was about 79 years old.

Pretty Wedding at 80 West Avenue for Block and Brownta

A large number of guests attended the ceremony at the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Woost on West Avenue Thursday evening. Fire damages two families dwelling near cemetery street

About nine o'clock Friday morning fire broke out in the rear of a house at the corner of cemetery and East Bayer street owned by the Tope estate. The double house housed Burke and Berres families. The blaze started from a defective flue and spread to partitions, forcing removal of lath and plaster. Damage about five hundred dollars, with insurance. Wheel damage slows Silsby fire engine on icy street

Friday morning the Silsby fire engine broke a wheel while turning at Ely's corner. The right hind wheel struck the carbin brake and shattered every spoke in the lower half. The engine could not proceed to the fire and had to limp back to the engine house by lowering and tying the affected wheel. A wheel on a boss part broke in the same way.
