Suggestions to Wheat Growers on Delayed Sowing
The Hessian fly and soil exhaustion threaten Ohio wheat yields. Delayed sowing after mid September in northern regions and later in southern areas reduces fall losses, while coordinated district postponement minimizes fly breeding. Use thorough soil prep, liberal manure, and two bushels of clean seed per acre. Rye offers no yield advantage and is less valuable.
