He also served in the Army of the Cumberland in 1864 and 1868 and was once mentioned as a candidate for district attorney.
A large equity suit filed in the United States Court by James B. McCreery of Pittsburgh for P M Morgan of Greensboro Ky and about fourteen hundred alleged Harlem Claimants seeks to confirm ownership of property in the upper part of the city. Morgan is named as direct heir. initial hearing set for February 28 before Judge Wallace. projected commissions may reduce claimants by two thirds with lawyers taking about one third of proceeds and each claimant around 10000. Compromise expected.
Galveston Tex Feb 16 The wholesale dry goods and shoe house Block Oppenheimer Co filed to transfer their stock and premises to satisfy local debts of 25785 mainly to banks and capitalists. Total liabilities reach 750000, most owed in New York. Over 50000 owed to H B Claflin Co. Directors include Louis Block Leopold Oppenheimer Elsie Michael Jacob Sonnentheil Sylvain Lion. Mr Lisa in New York since January 1.
