Berlin dispatch reports a British transport carrying 300 crew 1250 soldiers and 320 officers struck a mine near the Dardanelles and sank. Six vessels sank at the entrance and hundreds of bodies have been recovered.
United Press reports on a border confrontation near Fresno Texas where a band of fifty to sixty Mexican attackers is surrounded by soldiers and posses prepare to repel the raiders. Three attackers are confirmed killed including two women. A survivor describes torture prior to executions.
In a justice court session Maxwell Linder admitted taking C. G. Haskell’s car and wrecking it in a joy ride to Elko. Justice Castle sentenced him to sixty days in the County Jail. Edward Brandt, also involved, settled with Haskell for 100 dollars and faced no charges.
Sheriff Walker of Washington County Idaho reports Asa M. Adams, recently jailed for stealing horses from C C Truett and driven into Idaho, is sought for removing mortgaged property from the state Adams will be tried here first. if he escapes, Idaho authorities will take custody.
Elko's five strengthens its infield with Joseph Connelly and M. Falager while Bouthpaw Manning pitches in classy form. Local fans expect a high roll from visitors as Copper District talent lines up for the Sunday and Monday games.
United Press reports Britain has received hundreds of thousands of rifles made in Japan and Japanese guns are in use at the Dardanelles. It is also noted that Japan is reported to be shipping artillery to Russia.

Female volunteers lead Rodeo week planning with chairmen named for publicity equipment entry and enrollment decoration and parade scoring judging physicians and a baby contest featuring entrants from several Nevada towns. The event calendar lists daily shows at Leonard Hall from eight to noon and signals a major countywide display of thorebreds alongside agricultural exhibits by Elko county high school.
Two capital operations were performed yesterday at the Bowling hospital by Doctors Hood and West. One on Mrs. Nels Anderson of Elko and the other on J. D. McLaughlin of Bullion. Both patients are doing nicely and the operations were entirely successful.
Chairman Woodgate announces morning parade starts at 9:30 with participants assembling at 9:00 in the vacant ballpark area. route runs from the ball park east on Commercial to Ninth and Idaho to Fifth then through Fitch and Railroad before returning to the ball park. Two bands will play, including a 26 member group from Duck Valley and the home band of ten pieces. civil floats encouraged daily. County Commissioner Gregory reports a new footbridge and finished main bridge floor to handle crowds. John T. Reid of Lovelock attends to mining interests at Ewales Mountain.
United Press reports that England's official stance remains unchanged since Asquith's Guild Hall speech, insisting Britain fights to restore Belgium and defeat militarism. Officials say no steps toward a separate peace, all allies united with firm resolve, while the German embassy's note omits Belgium or France freedom and seeks American aid.
George Stock of Carlin arrived in Elko on the tenth of the month for medical care, met by Steward Taber of the county hospital. Dr. Harper accompanied him, noting only that Stock was sick as he could barely walk.
The Hinds-Rolph company reports its steamer William Lewis was fired on by a submarine. The crew of thirty abandoned ship with unverified reports of sinking but no fatalities. The vessel sailed from Everett Washington in March for England under British registry.

London Sept 3 The Belgian vessel Roumaing and the steamer Whitefield have been submarine reported. Their crews are landed and T M Mow is assembling machinery for his Bullion amelter in San Francisco and will be ready to ship soon.
