PAMIS Oct 19 The French attacked the German lines on the Aisne front after heavy bombardment. The war office reports German positions were penetrated and one hundred prisoners taken as a result of the attack.
Jen Kuhl, convicted of murdering Fred Searcey the Jarbidge stage driver, was taken to Carson City by Sheriff J C Harrin after being sentenced to be shot at the Nevada State Prison. He spoke calmly to acquaintances. his last words to his mother were Bye bye, mother, as the train departed. His execution date was set for January 10, 1918.
Testimony by Jewell Harris and Simons concluded as state rested. Defense sought adjournment for witness absence and was granted. Court recessed until 10 and then until 1 with jury expected to have verdict by 3.
Washington reports the government has advanced an additional twenty million dollars to France, lifting total aid to two billion seven hundred thirty one million. At the Mayer Hotel last night the Elko County Bar Association honored Attos homas Ages for his army service. Six courses were served, sixteen covers were set, and several patriotic speeches praised Agee’s sacrifice. A wrist watch was presented, and a motion to subscribe to a $1000 liberty loan was carried.
Qet 19 Marcy Sparber, a Washington Avenue jeweler, pleaded guilty before Police Judge George F. Barker to petty larceny for stealing bath fixtures from Wright Bros. store on a recent Thursday. He was fined $10 after admitting the act and requesting leniency. The theft was detected when the customer noticed missing items and alerted the manager. A plainclothes officer arrested Sparber after the store recovered the goods.
State Auditor Sullivan reports examinations of Lincoln County books show fraudulent transactions and warrants issued to school teachers dating from 1915 and 1916. Some warrants indicate services not rendered and were endorsed by a former official. The case will go to the grand jury with expected indictments.
Captain B. D. Giroux and family arrived from Halt Lake City and will report to Camp Kearney near San Diego California after three months in charge of the prison hospital at Port Dowalis. He is noted as a former Kiko etrl with Nelile Cotant.
