An Old Washoette notes Reno's late 1960s to early 1970s pony express events from Reno to Virginia City. Crowds gathered on Virginia street near the toll bridge as coaches and carriages lined the road, with fresh horses swapped every 1.5 miles in long races. Owners paid toll-bridge bonuses. a near collision at the bridge injured no one seriously amid high excitement and betting on outcomes.
