United States Warship Destroys German U-Boat

An American warship at an Atlantic port reported sinking a German submarine during a recent cruise. Official notices said the vessel was struck amidships, raising the sub from the water and splitting it into two parts.

Proceedings of County Highway Board April 1938

The board met in session on April 8 1938 with Commissioners Volehi Gregory Jones Anseseai Weathers and others presiding. Bills were approved for numerous road workers and suppliers including Reed Mayhulls and others. minutes from prior meeting approved. Gompers Seeks Removal of Porto Rico Governor Yager

Fresh German Attacks Fail as British Gain Ground

London May 9 The British counterattack last night drove Germans from portions of the La Clyette Voormezzle sector on the Flanders front and British advances continued east of Amiens between the Somme and Ancre rivers. German divisions suffered heavy losses and renewed efforts north of Kemmel met limited success. All original British defenses remained intact near Vierstraet as fighting continued across the Voormezzle La Clyette sector.

Sinking of Lake Moor Torpedoed off Scotland

Lieutenant Frank Pulaski, a U S N R survivor, recounts the torpedoing of the U S 8 Lake Moor off Scotland on April 20. Sixty four officers and men sailed, forty six missing. Pulaski, aboard from Duluth launch to sinking, describes the blast, the crew's struggle, rescues by a Norwegian trader, and two deaths.

Report of Woman's Club Meeting at Lovelock Nevada

The Nevada Federation of Women's Clubs met in Lovelock with Mrs. Frank Ellis Humphrey chairing the social and industrial department. She highlighted civilian relief efforts through the Red Cross and Home Service aiding soldiers families, probation officers' rising numbers, delinquent children programs, and the Twentieth Century Club of Eiko aiding reorganization of the State Industrial School under trained juvenile care. Governor Boyle praised policy changes and fearlessness in steering the institution.

American Submarine Lands Man on Irish Coast

An American submarine landed a man on the Irish coast and he was placed under arrest. The prisoner’s identity and nationality were not disclosed. James McPherson said in the House of Commons that the man is in the tower of London and will face a court martial.
