Big Interests Buy Into Elko Shale Lands

The Crane Shale Oil Corporation has been acquired by H. G. Humphries and associates. The firm owns the Crane process for extracting gasoline from shale and plans to develop about 2000 acres at Watson, Utah. Washington May 6 By a margin of one vote the senate defeated the motion to proceed next Friday to consider the House woman suffrage amendment to the constitution. The vote stood forty to twenty one just short of the two thirds needed.

Elko boys escape death in near wreck on rodeo grounds

Paul Winstead of Lee Nevada and Jesse Harris son of Sheriff J C Harris narrowly avoided serious harm on a race track when Wins ted’s Buick 6 cylinder roadster went out of control smashing the cement wall and overturning several times. Harris suffered cuts and bruises while Winstead had a badly bruised leg. The wreck left the car badly damaged and Winstead planned to have the body placed back on the chassis after repairs.
