The Cunard Liner Orduna arrived safely at Liverpool from New York with 110 passengers including eight Americans after passing through the barred submarine zone. The Baltic Rochambeaux and Caria were also reported off New York having passed through the danger zone.
Amsterdam reports Austria backs Germany in submarine warfare while seeking to avoid breaking diplomatic relations. Vienna blames the Allies especially England for discarding international sea warfare rules, argues neutrals may travel on neutral ships, but belligerents rights prevail. Austria pledges to honor assurances to the United States and avoid misunderstandings.
Democratic members propose joint resolutions demanding Governor Johnson resign immediately to Washington to represent California in the United States Senate during this critical period. The plan calls for a patriotic appeal to open his seat in the Senate.
In Derby England on March 6 Mrs Allee Wheelman Miss Kitty Wheelman and Mr and Mrs Albert Mason were placed on trial charged with plotting to kill Lloyd George and labor leader Arthur Henderson.
Washington March 6 Austria's reply on the proposed submarine policy has reached the State Department and is now being decided.
Sabino Govea, noted for a Ford racer at our last rodeo, unveiled a new stripped Dodge racing car. In yesterday’s test he reached sixty five miles per hour on poor roads, claiming a good track could push him toward one hundred mph. He redesigned the cylinder head to twelve valves and enhanced intake and exhausts, aiming for the region’s fastest machine.
The county commissioners set 1917 tax levies across multiple funds including State School Teachers Pension state funds Indigent County General Emergency Court House and Jail Bond Interest Elko County High School Bond Interest and Sinking funds and district level bonds for Elko Metropolis Taber Carlin Mantell and other districts. The notice lists dozens of specific sinking and interest funds and indicates continuation on page four.
A delegation led by Superintendent Matthew Kyle visits the Nevada School of Industry four miles east of Elko. Elko county strengthens as a Thoroughbred cattle region with Thos Short & Son ranch Ruby Valley noted for Short Horn Durhams. In Washington the Democratic senators elect Senator Martin of Virginia as majority leader succeeding Senator Kern of Indiana.
County commissioners decide to give the old state university site for a county high school. They note all construction costs fall to taxpayers and discuss later plans for a new hospital building as current facilities are deemed inadequate. The motion to grant the site passes with Voight and Gregory in support.
Foreign Secretary Zimmerman was attacked on the Reichstag floor by a socialist over the Mexican note. He defended the démarche noting American concerns were unfounded as Germany contemplated decisive action and expressed relief that Japan had learned of the plan.

Washington March 6 The Supreme Court, Justice Day, holds the British steamer Appam seized as a German prize is British owned. The decision says Germany could not dock her in a neutral or German port near her location, to avoid making American harbors refuges for belligerent warships and preserve U S neutrality.
Berlin reports eighteen Allied aircraft were shot down on the western front last Sunday. Harry W. Evans, a local Reo dealer, received a carload of machines including two five passenger cars, one seven passenger car, and a three-quarter ton speed wagon. He has rented and remodeled the Harrington building at 640 Commercial Street.
