Free Press Employee Forges Checks in Local Store

Barry Martin, a Daily Free Press employee, tried to pass a forged check at Sutherland and McFarlane using B M Steninger’s name and a Free Press rubber stamp. He was jailed, later admitting only one check, though another forged check had been cashed the previous day by Joe Sue. Martin, who had worked in Elko for about three weeks, said drinking and gambling led to the crime.

Asked Not 10 Land On Mexican Shores

Senor Arredondo, Washington representative of the Carranza government, admitted today that he had requested upon orders from General Carranza that the State Department forbid warships crews landing on the shores of Mexico. It is not stated what action has been taken in this matter. Dr. W. E. Taylor, a Reno optometrist, after a brief visit here on professional work, left for Carlin and will return to Reno Wednesday. He is a loyal booster of Ellis and his many friends hope he may locate here permanently.
