Washington reports a nine percent average rise in retail food prices from March 15 to April 15. Flour up 18 percent, bacon 15 percent, potatoes 14 percent, and most food items show increases over the past year with an overall about 32 percent rise.
Carlin faces Elko Sunday at 1 30 p m with hopes to avenge last week’s loss. Carlin’s fans will travel with the team while Elko seeks to return the fire amid ideal ball conditions and a small admission charge to cover expenses.
Philadelphia June 1. Convinced that organized baseball had entered into no conspiracy to wreck the business of the Baltimore club they have dropped their suit for 900000. The suit was an antitrust case against the American and National leagues the national commission and other defendants.

Professor Albert Seemann, formerly of a New York college, was found guilty of attempted espionage and prohibited intercourse with war prisoners by a Mannheim court. He received a 250 mark fine and avoided imprisonment after six weeks in jail during the investigation. authorities say he distributed Paris newspapers to French prisoners and claimed to act under U.S. government orders.

Washington June 15 The president has pressed the food bills and the Senate will start work on the control bill tomorrow. The measure was introduced in the Senate this afternoon and may pass ahead of the war tax bill and other measures.
Greek residents of the Ely district contribute 300 dollars to the Red Cross. The funds were sent to Senator Pittman and forwarded to the National Red Cross Society. The senator called the gift a remarkable tribute to Greek loyalty in America.
William Kennett, clerk of the supreme court, received a letter stating one nephew is in Europe with General Pershing. The young man served in Mexico with Pershing and was selected for the signal corps to accompany the general to the war scene. Kennett has two other nephews in the U S infantry.
Washington reports the Liberty Loan 5 exceeded its target with books closed at noon. Officials estimate total subscriptions reach at least two and a half billion dollars, possibly three billion, with most federal reserve districts surpassing minimum allotments. Secretary McAdoo called the result a triumph for democracy and government resolve to push the war toward a swift end. He hinted no further offering of the remaining three billion may occur before fall.
The notice urges parental attention to safety as Judge Taber warns that the river current is hazardous with whirlpools when water is high. He recalls pulling boys from the water and stresses the risk of drowning without his past experience guiding supervision.
