Charles Belknap Henderson of Ely Nevada banker lawyer and United States Senator announces Khavell as a candidate for the office which he now holds in Washington following the death of Senator Newlands. Henderson born June 8 1873 San Jose California later moved to Elko Nevada and rose from district attorney to Nevada Assembly regent of the Nevada State University and then to the U S Senate. He has served on committees including Industrial Expositions Banking and Currency Conservation of Nations Resources Irrigation and Reclamation of Arid Lands and Library. He supported four public bills advancing interstate commerce franking for state officers defense mail and mining law amendments.
Captain J. McKenzie and sixteen crew members of the American steamship Pinar Del Rio, lost when the vessel was sunk by a German submarine off Mare Island, arrived in New York aboard a Norwegian steamer. They were picked up by a lifeboat about 76 miles off the New Jersey coast and reached port today.

San Francisco on June 10 a sailor and his wife had their lifelong savings seized by federal officials for violating Wilson era rules banning the wiring of gold abroad. The couple, persuaded by Mrs. Ricardo Rodriguez, carried £1,955 abroad to Central America. Officers seized the money and plan to seek permission from Secretary McAdoo for its return.
