Split in Republican convention looks like a certainty

CHICAGO June 8. Senator A B Fall will present Roosevelt's name to the Republican convention and demand his nomination. The Progressives may name Roosevelt and Hiram Johnson. Hughes is expected to win the nomination. talks of vice presidential possibilities drift to Fairbanks and Thurston. The convention opened with low enthusiasm, Smoot's credentials upheld, Hahn's permanent organization approved, Harding greeted with some enthusiasm, and Depew Cannon speeches followed by a four minute Ohio delegation demonstration. A suffrage plank is urged while prohibition is rejected. Oyster Bay reports Roosevelt invited to address delegates, with Roosevelt likely to appear. The Pr ogressives expect Roosevelt's nomination this afternoon despite peace conference hopes.

Family All Slain by Axe Wielder

In Wills Point Texas on June 8 a mysterious axe killer struck again. Mrs U F Goodnight 70 and her husband president of Vandgendt National Bank were attacked at their home and their daughter Mrs R J Boran was beaten. The assailant used an axe with no known motive or signs of robbery. R J Moran reported awakening to screams and finding Mrs Goodnight in the cellar and Mr Goodnight in the second floor bedroom.

Last Echo of the Cohn Case Ends in Return of Goods

Judge Taber ordered the dry goods, valued at several hundred dollars and alleged stolen from L. I. Dreben's Carlin store, restored to Dreben after Cohn was acquitted in district court. Dreben had shipped items to Sacramento, recovered them, and brought them back for evidence. Cohn left Elko County and did not return. Dreben pursued possession as a matter of principle and value.

Concrete SnowSheds Planned By The Southern Pacific

Southern Pacific officials plan reinforced concrete snowsheds at fire breaks after repeated losses from fires on the mountain division. Contractors toured the mountains and believe construction can be at reasonable cost. No bids yet. if feasible, future road cov ers will use concrete. Crews repair and replace wooden sheds, which last about thirty years, with yearly replacements.
