Special to The Independent from Vienna reports Przemysl was retaken by Austrian forces as the siege ends at three p m after three weeks of heavy fighting. Many killed or wounded. prisoners taken along with cannon, ammunition and food. General Mackenzen declares next objective is Lemberg as Russian forces retreat in disorder.
Washington report says Villa says he eased with President Wilson's note while Carranza vows to resist American interference. Observers think the United States may pressure factions to unite a provisional president, with intervention only as a last resort if internal collapse occurs.
