Washington July 12 The president says absolute fairness guides the draft process and will withhold the exact plan until the eve of the drawing. Officials expect the training to begin next week as some laws delay reporting their organizations.
W. HL Elbrecht and George Bridenbecker collided on Fi'th Street near the corner of 1d6a0 Street. Bridenbecker, driving a trailer laden with silt, lost cable patches after the crash. Bridenbecker’s vehicle turned into an alley. Mr Wibrecht tried to pass and struck the motorcycle amidship, leaving the bike wrecked but Bridenbecker uninjured besides minor injuries. The trailer’s cream spilled across the street, noted as about one hundred fifty pounds. This is the second accident involving Bridenbecker at this spot within a short period.
Washington July 12 The federal reserve board designated Ogden Utah as one of the reserve cities marking a change in regional financial centers for the federal system.
Petrograd July 12 The Russians report capture of Kalusz the enemy headquarters in Galicia and say their advance continues with large numbers of prisoners taken in the morning announcement.
In a discussion with Judge Doughty the issue of underage drinkers who misstate their age to bar keepers was addressed. He said laws criminalize serving minors and saloon keepers are not to blame when honest-looking youths are over twenty-one. A crackdown is expected and several young men may reform after the upcoming case.
The Supreme Court of Nevada admitted Ben Curler to practice this afternoon. A letter from Curler says his ship was attacked by a German submarine en route to France and he saw action, though he doubts the submarine was sunk. The event marks a notable honor for Curler and his family, with local support praising his service and citizenship.
Secretary Baker announces a formal agreement with steel industry representatives to supply the entire product for war purposes at a cost of production based price. An FTC inquiry follows the announcement. The government promises reasonable profits and provisions to support industry expansion.

A fire at the Mill Goldbanks Quicksilver Mining plant fifty miles south of Winnemucca destroyed the facility. The loss is pegged at 50,000 with most workers at supper. the plant produced about 20,000 monthly, and rebuilding is estimated to take nine months. Manager W G Adamson suspects incendiary origin.
A large tobacco shipment worth eight million dollars, arriving in San Francisco from Sumatra Java and Borneo, is being rushed to New York for Sumatra Import Corporation. Sample bases travel by baggage car on passenger trains as part of a 25 million dollar East Indies venture by a New York firm.
B O McCormick vice president of Southern Pacific spoke in Reno urging relocation from crowded eastern districts to vacant western lands. He outlined state opportunities and urged statewide cooperation for successful development of the colonization plan.
Paris reports that after a violent bombardment the Germans launched several surprise night attacks on both banks of the Meuse river but were repulsed by French troops in official announcements.
Paris July 12 The French mine sweeper Jupiter struck a mine in the English Channel on Tuesday and went down. Eleven sailors were killed with others rescued.
The two o clock Red Cross sewing classes on Tuesday and Friday led by Mrs John Henderson are discontinued due to hot weather. Home sewing work is available at the high school from 10 to 12 Tuesday and Friday. Wednesday surgical dressings class at 2 pm led by Mrs Charles Henderson continues as usual. Everyone is invited to participate.
July 12 officials announced British casualties from the German success near Nieuport and in Belgium totaled about eighteen hundred men including prisoners taken.
In Bisbee Arizona on July 12 a mass roundup deported about 1,000 J. W. W. members from the town under armed guard. Citizens protective league and deputies swept neighborhoods, searched for weapons and I W W cards, and loaded detainees into cattle cars. Two men, Deputy Sheriff McRae and a striker, were reported killed in the chaos. State Attorney Cleary and others were caught in the enforcement net.
