Dec 18 German planes raided the English coast and reached London. Official notes say sixteen to twenty raiders tried to reach the city, five succeeded in dropping bombs. Casualties were ten killed and seventy injured in London, five hurt outside. Fires started but damage limited. no naval or military sites harmed.
Tentative two day session of Overland Trail club members and Nevada branch officials set for February 2 and 3 in Reno. President W H H Goodin in Reno arranging at Reno Commercial Club rooms. reports, elections, and a Sunday excursion to Truckee with winter festivities planned.
As final exams end, university students prepare to leave for holidays. Drafts and wartime needs thin the campus population, with many engineering students joining the army or navy. Paul Freeman a 13 year old Reno youth on a bicycle was struck at Court and Granite streets by a car driven by Assemblyman W G Ducker and died almost instantly. Police ruled the death an unavoidable accident after a thorough investigation.
Tokyo Dec 1 Japan plans to build 240 ships annually with 1 400 000 tons according to a government statement. The shipbuilding industry has surged since the war began and by September 1 shipyards owned by forty two firms accounted for 11 percent of capacity.
Citizens are urged to join the Red Cross today with a one dollar membership. Booths at the Commercial and Mayer hotels will issue receipts and provide pins, with an option to donate more or pay an extra dollar for next year. Support for the troops is emphasized as the drive continues.

Japanese artillery officer Lieutenant Ko jiro Aval completed a modern arms facility for the Mexican government after eight months in Mexico City. The arsenal, built with 200 Mexican workers and skilled Japanese staff, was tested and found capable of producing 110 000 to 116 000 bullets daily, aiding Mexican forces and marking a significant Japanese military contribution.

Rome Dec 19 The Austro German forces on the Italian mountain front pressed a determined avance along a line between Col Caprillo and Monte Hertica. They gained ground only at Monte Asco where they advanced and held the positions won yesterday.
John G. Taylor and J. Sheehan transfer the Taylor and Sheehan ranch at Golconda to Frank W. and George E. Stall, mining men formerly of National, now operating at Masonic, California. Possession begins January 1. The 5000 acre property includes 3000 cultivated acres and has undergone extensive improvements including a Humboldt diversion dam and irrigation canal. The new owners will reside in the county and take charge. They have also sold the Pumpernickel ranch south of Golconda to R. B. Stewart, disposing of the remainder of their interests in the area.
Mr and Mrs William Rutherford travel from Mountain City and expect to depart tomorrow for an extended visit in California. The short notice notes their relocation for an extended stay and confirms the destination state.
