Explosion damages governor residence in Sacramento

In Sacramento on December 18, a dynamite blast damaged the official residence of Governor William D. Stevens. The governor and household were asleep and unharmed as the mansion sustained only slight damage. Police have no suspects yet and attribute the explosion to dynamite.

General European Peace Talks Headed From Brest Litovsk

Petrograd reports German and Austrian ministers Von Kuellmann and Czernin notified Bolshevik foreign minister Trotsky they will arrive at Brest Litovsk on Tuesday to begin negotiations for a general European peace. Trotsky told allies that armistice results are definite and peace negotiations will start, inviting participation or a public stance on peace.

New Utah coal prices fixed by U S Fuel Administration

Prices for Utah coal were announced by Harry A. Garfeld of the U S Fuel Administration. Run of mine 2.80 per ton pared sizes 3.30 slack 2.50, up from earlier 2.60 2.85 and 2.36. Increases exceed the general 45 cent rise under the Washington labor agreement and remain subject to revision after cost investigations.
