Petrograd dispatch reports that a large portion of two Russian regiments in the Fokshani region withdrew from trenches on the Romanian front yesterday. A dispersal of one regiment followed and steps were taken to restore the positions as a battle continued.
The American schooner Laura C. Anderson, a 960 ton four master, was sunk by bombs from a submarine on Thursday. The entire crew swam ashore safely at an English port.
Forest officials favor building a road along the Jarbidge river and over the summit to Bruneau, with Kikora Mines superintendent and Surveyor McBride returning from Ogden where officials expressed sympathy and readiness to help. The project teams with Elko County highway board, federal representatives, and Charleston to provide winter access, despite snow blocking the present Charleston to Jarbidge road from November to July.
Rome Aug 30 Italian forces repelled Austrian counterattacks against new positions above Gorizia. The Austrians were driven back in multiple sectors and the Italians made further gains in the day’s fighting.

Paris Aug 30 The French army penetrated German positions in Champaign taking king prisoners and machine guns as official reports. German forces were repulsed in attacks along the Verdun front.
The courts sentenced 18 months penal servitude to three Hamburg American Line officials for conspiring to aid German warships. They admitted spending nearly two million dollars in German gold on illegal activities. Detectives say German authorities spent twenty seven million dollars in America to sway public opinion against the Allies and foment unrest in labor circles and in Mexico.
Washington Aug 30 The commission fixing the wheat price will submit their report to the president who will announce the decision. It was indicated the panel may not reach full agreement and the president would cast the deciding vote on the price.

Paris reports that in Verdun operations the number of artillerymen exceeds the infantry on the battle line. The shortage stems from gunner tasks and the immense number of cannons deployed.
Aug 30 reports say an entente aerial squadron tried to attack Frankfurt on the Main last Sunday. German anti aircraft guns thwarted the mission and forced the planes to return to base.
Copenhagen dispatch says the entire Polish state council has resigned. Newspapers cite the Russian revolution as shifting Polish attitude and ending efforts to form a government under a German protectorate.
At a city council meeting a committee was formed to arrange a demonstration likely on September 4 in honor of men departing September 5 to enter the army under the selective draft. Five percent of drafted men will depart that day and it has become a public holiday by governor’s proclamation. The exact form of the demonstration remains undecided.
