Paris reports strong German assaults on the Aisne and Verdun fronts were repulsed by French fire. French positions held and more than eleven hundred prisoners were taken yesterday.
Fike County Red Cross chapter members travel to Jarbidge for a weekend visit reporting a successful trip. Prominent journalist Charles C. Goodwin editor in chief of the Salt Lake Tribune for 21 years died at home after months of illness. He later led Salt Lake City publications and authored several books including The Doumtock Club and As I Remember Them. Columbus New Mexico August 27 The twenty fourth infantry battalion from Houston has arrived and the men accused of involvement are placed in the stockade.
In Phoenix on April 27 the governor’s office announced federal protection for Attorney Fred H. Moore who has been handling the interests of the alleged W W deportees from Bisbee. Lieutenant Fred Wright was instructed by the War Department to accompany Moore on his return from Bisbee.
Berlin reports German forces cut Beaumont off on the Verdun front east of the Meuse in yesterday’s fighting. They subsequently recaptured the village and surrounding woods as the battle continued.

Washington Aug 27 The first death of an American naval flier on the French front is announced. George Herbert Manley machinist and mate in the naval aeronautical corps was killed today though the accident nature is not described. He was son of Herbert Manley of Maplewood.
