The 24th U S Infantry, implicated in a riot that killed seventeen, are being moved from Houston toward Columbus New Mexico at daybreak. Thirty four soldiers face murder charges as the battalion of 633 members entrains after Major General Bell arrives and an investigation begins.
Atlanta reports the federal government, to counter high grain costs, sends C. J. Goodell of the Bureau of Animal Industry to the Southeast with assistants to move cattle from the West to semi range south. Ranchers in Georgia, the Carolinas, and other states ready to cooperate, with one farmer in South Georgia prepared to handle 25 000 cattle.
Wm. Smith and his wife, both colored, were arrested for stealing a bureau from B. J. Bangs. They had recently lived in Bangs' house and moved out with the bureau. The woman was previously arrested and fined twenty five dollars for a disorderly house offense.
Paris reports a new French victory on the Verdun front to the north of HNL 304 with three fortified positions captured. The total number of prisoners taken on this front now stands at 100.
An Austrian visitor in Copenhagen reports widespread war weariness and food riots at home. He says Austrians favor peace negotiations and are pressing government to accept territorial sacrifices or buy out of the war, with Berlin officials and German leaders also urging a peace settlement before winter.

The device is kept highly secret, with claims it can propel planes faster than any prior model.
