A group promotes forming a county chamber of commerce in Elko County with at least 60 members, half farmers outside Elko. They seek unified county representation, plan picnics and smokers, a women's auxiliary, and a 1917 program of civic improvements to benefit residents and businesses.
Mr J J Cullen, local S FP agent, and his son Jesse returned from San Francisco where they attended Mrs Cullen at St Luke's hospital. She underwent an operation days ago and is now out of danger and convalescent. Ralph, another son, remained behind.
Chairman Vance McCormick of the Democratic National Committee announced the President will formally accept the renomination at Shadow Lawn in Asbury Park New Jersey on September 2. He will also answer Hughes during the event.
An insolent Carranzista lieutenant was shot and killed by an American provost guard at Colonia Dublan. The incident occurred this morning as reported by Gen. Pershing to Gen. Funston. The location is San Antonio, Texas, and the date is August 15.
Boston reports a $100 fine for Santo Fagone Jarred after Old Glory was used as a clothesbag and hung from a window. Judge Barnes stated the act contemptuously treated the flag. Fagone claimed he would not insult the flag but did not reveal citizenship.
Mes. John J. Gerrecht and her young son Barney left for Salt Lake City this morning. The community expressed mixed feelings as Mrs Cullen improves, sparking gratitude and congratulations on her recovery.
