London reports German assault on British positions east of Ypres last night. Official release says Berserk fighting led to some ground gained near the Ypres road, but details are incomplete due to broken transmission.
In Indianapolis Aug MM Major General Thomas MoBarry commander of the central department arrived today and was joined by governors from Ohio Kentucky West Virginia and Indiana this afternoon as he reviewed trainee officers at the officers training camp. The reviewing party included Governors Co of Ohio Stanley of Kentucky Cornwell of West Virginia and Goodneh of Indiana. Men from these states are in the training camp which ends in five days and commissions will be granted to those who pass examinations.
Nevada county boards report high exemption rates as many residents claim relief for dependents and industrial work. In Tonopah thirty three of forty examined sought exemption while Winnemucca records show eighty eight passing tests. Humboldt County's quota sits at ninety six, prompting another examination batch.
Henry Robinson arrived from Dinuba California to purchase a vineyard and settle in Elko. He drove to Reno leaving Mrs. Robinson to visit Trends while he sorts business and arranges shipment of household effects. Elko residents wish the couple success in their new home.

A wartime bulletin from the National Emergency Food Garden Commission outlines methods to dry onions and leeks for storage. It covers selecting mature produce, blanching times, slicing options, and drying on trays or strings, followed by conditioning and proper containment to protect from insects.
Instructions describe selecting tender beans and trimming to 2 inch lengths. Beans are blanched three to eight minutes, then cooled, drained, and packed in clean jars with brine of two and a half ounces salt per gallon water. Jars are processed one hour for quarts, then cooled and stored in a cool dry place.
Olla Mubkouee reports BLB Calhert of the local eastern Anka club hit three home runs yesterday, breaking the prior record and pushing his season total to thirty five. The old mark of thirty four was held by Bese, formerly with McAlostom, in the same circuit.
Winnemucca loses the Western Union transcontinental repeating station to Elko with an extra Reno office planned. The move costs about 9000 dollars, but payroll savings and faster printing may recoup costs within two months. The Elko site will power its own plant, and Reno gains an additional office.
Senate Joint Resolution No 33 relieves officers and enlisted men mustered into U S military or naval service from performing annual mining claim labor during their service. Provisions suspend the $100 annual labor requirement until six months after muster out or death, provided notice is filed before the end of the assessment year.
