German workers face a massive strike as one quarter of a million laborers walk out. Authorities threaten conscription for resisters, pushing many back to work amid the geheimfront climate and wartime demands.
The State Fish and Game Warden announces a Nevada ruling prohibiting the use of spawn eggs or ova as bait in any waters. The attorney general's interpretation confirms the ban, with penalties including fines from fifty to two hundred fifty dollars or 25 to 125 days in jail for violators. Deputy wardens and peace officers are instructed to enforce the law.
The United States embassy in London was informed by the Glasgow consulate this morning that the first American prisoner of the war has been taken. German submarines typically take merchant ship captains as prisoners when sinking vessels, suggesting another American vessel may have been torpedoed.
The Austrian government will convene Parliament on May 30 to address food shortages and wartime economic social and financial problems. Parliament has not sat since before the war.
