A capitol meeting of Nevada cattlemen and business representatives urged substantial decreases in established tax rates. They proposed cash values and 70 percent assessments for cattle and sheep, with 1915 lambs excluded, and sought a 33 1/3 percent cut on hogs. The board will review the proposals in coming days with Governor Boyle and officials present.
Counterfeit nickels have appeared in Elko. The forgeries show the date 1896 and are smoother and smaller in diameter and thickness than genuine coins. Careful handling reveals faintly cut lines and a smooth rim, aiding quick identification.
An auto party from Colorado led by Mr. George Horton and Mrs Horton with V. Morehouse and Mrs Haley reached Elko after traveling the northern Salt Lake route. London reports Allied forces forced to retreat two miles as German forces advance toward Calais.
