Indiana police and citizens raided French Lick casinos but found them deserted. Wagons carried away paraphernalia after a prior tipoff. Attorney General Bingham led the operation as Brown resisted at first then allowed the search claiming no more gambling this summer.
G W Butler spoke before a First Presbyterian church audience on where city taxes go illustrated by a chart showing street lights sewers water and other public improvements. He outlined tax allocations including police 12 percent fire 19 percent water 18 1 4 percent and light 14 3 4 percent totaling 81 percent with the rest for miscellaneous. He urged cooperative local governance and noted the need to learn from subordinates and adopt effective plans.
Architect J Hill Turnock inspected the Gary Tribune office in Gary Indiana yesterday approving a white glazed brick two story structure sized 25 by 86 feet. The four page seven column weekly printed its initial issue last Wednesday and editor Homer J Carr plans a daily paper as soon as conditions allow with suitable equipment onsite.
Friends of John L. Moorman offered even money in Goshen today predicting his victory in the congressional nomination over Charles W. Miller. Moorman claims solid delegations from Starke Fulton and Pulaski counties and near full support from Marshall and Kosciusko areas plus half of St Joseph county. Miller supporters deny counts but say the district is effectively committed to him.
Two active candidates stand out Lenny AL Barnhart of the Rochester Sentinel and Andrew J. Bunkel of North Judson as others explore bids for the Democratic nomination in the Thirteenth district. Police charge Walker and Clayton Strine with stealing bicycles. The nine and eleven year old brothers, sons of James Strine of 710 Michigan Street, were arraigned in Goshen before Judge Dodge on petit larceny charges. Juvenile officer James Bigelow handled the case.
William T. Jerome defended himself before Commissioner Richard T. Hand in Elizabethtown as Franklin Pierce for the complainants argued Jerome failed to pursue bribery leads and intervened in grand jury matters. The hearing, the last day, adjourned with briefs due by June 10.
Thieves entered the residence of Charles Clouse yesterday morning while Mrs. Clouse was in the back yard and stole a half carat diamond ring a gold band ring a two dollar bill fifty cents in silver and two ten cent pieces from an upstairs room. Police investigated and Mrs. Clouse provided a clue as officers work to identify the culprits.
Eight well dressed young men, last passenger on the Lake Shore, were caught riding on the blind baggage as No. 8 stopped at the city. They were arrested, arraigned for vagrancy, pleaded guilty, fined, and required to leave town within thirty minutes. Their homes are in Toledo and they planned to ride to Wauseon.
E. B. Myers, principal, oversees preparations for the New Central School set to open in September. The current building will be removed with its accessories moved to the new structure. The new Central School will house 614 pupils from the old building and accommodate 2386 pupils from ward schools.
Sergeant Rinehart ordered a street fakir at the corner of Franklin and Main to move on last night. The man sold worthless watch chains at a dollar each and promised refunds and a present after selling a set amount. He had six workers in the crowd and fled when ordered to quit the corner, stopping the bunco game.
A Lake Shore official reports freight activity to rise to normal levels by September with July showing gains. He notes T-rail work resumes next week as four gangs begin replacing rails from the West Tower toward the Airline, signaling broader business revival.
Superior Court adjourns Friday with the term ending Saturday. holiday closing cancels tomorrow's session and many cases will be carried to the September term. Edward Parker was arraigned in the Superior Court on petit larceny and pleaded not guilty. bond was not furnished.

New York May 28 Justice Kelly of the supreme court voiced support for a law to curb mothers in law he said cause half of all divorce cases. He noted interference by mothers in law accounts for 50 percent of divisive disputes before him.

Gen Stephen Dill Lee, commander in chief of the United Confederate Veterans and the last surviving Confederate general, died in Vicksburg, Mississippi at nearly 75. Born September 22, 1835 in Charleston, he rose from U S Army officer to lieutenant general, fought at Seven Pines and Bull Run, and led forces at Vicksburg before his wartime and postwar career in Confederate memory.
