A high spirited colt startled by a passing car toppled farmer William Shupert from his buggy in front of the City Hotel. The vehicle crashed into a telegraph pole, injuring Shupert lightly while the horse fled south on Main street until recaptured near Germania hall.
A fishing trip ended with a runaway two pony rig on Esgle Lake Road. Lorin Parrett was dragged when a pony kicked at him, tearing his coat. he managed to stop the team. A stranger notes people talking to themselves in the town as odd behavior. Madrid reports La Epoca says Cuban reforms are underway and Porto Rico autonomy is noted amid Philippine disturbances.
Rome June 16 Tribuna reports that the Italian punitive expedition against the Somalis was defeated by superior numbers with thirteen killed or wounded. Italian officers were among the casualties.
In Constantinople on June 16 the Porte plans twenty new cavalry regiments for Blassona and Salonica. The imperial move lifts the army to 100000 men and includes the purchase of 1300000 Mauser rifles.
Gen Nelson A. Miles arrives in London to represent the United States Army at the queen's jubilee alongside Rear-Admiral J. N. Miller who will represent the U S Navy on the same occasion.

A gasoline and kerosene mix up at J B Menschlei’s home on South Second Street caused an explosion last evening. The blunder by a grocery clerk led to kerosene in the gasoline can and vice versa. The lamps were lit, flames erupted, but no one was hurt and damage to the house and furniture was slight. The family acted quickly to extinguish the blaze.
George Hascall a passenger brakeman on a Chicago to Laporte express was attacked near Laporte Saturday night by three men who bound gagged and robbed him of 47 dollars before beating him unconscious and leaving him on a pile of cross ties. He recovered and rode the next train to return home with no suspects yet identified.
A ten round match between Jimmie Doyle of Goshen and Tommy Danforth of New York ended in a technical draw after forty five minutes. About 350 spectators watched in Sheridan Hall as two amateurs Sny der and Tweedy boxed three rounds prior to the main event.
Allen Houseworth of Houseworth Brothers north end drug store narrowly escaped serious injuries after a bottle filled with turpentine and sulphuric acid exploded. Fifteen year old William Ryan described as a living skeleton due to throat and lung disease sought admission at the city jail last night. He received temporary relief from Dr M M Eckelman and was later transported by Trustee Sweitzer toward Cleveland for care, after stating he left home two weeks ago and traveled via Chicago.
Sergeant Dunbar found a youthful tramp at the Lake Shore yards eating breakfast on St. Joe street. The man claimed ten years of asthma but appeared about eighteen, was told to leave town and headed toward Goshen.
A city stone yard visit showed five prisoners cracking cobbles under Turnkey Roy Edgerly. Culp. Culp threatens legal damages. A farmer, J. H. Burns, reports a horse rescue on South Main Street after bystanders failed to assist, while Alfred Sargent dies of typhoid pneumonia at 50. Charles Kinney wins Huntington brick-pavement contract worth $28,000. Prof H. O. Hanson signs with Manhattan Amusement Syndicate to perform daily ascensions July 1-3.
Three year old Annie Shulke of 904 Lafayette Street fell from a chair into a hot water vessel on the kitchen floor. She died within about three hours despite prompt medical aid. officials ruled the death purely accidental and no inquest was held.
Police report a Hokseman block family attempted a late night move on High street. A loaded wagon drove from the Gobble stone alley with home goods. an ironing board and laundry were dropped and recovered. Landlord unaware of the move. the family planned to return for the remaining belongings.
A severe lightning strike leveled the Adamsville temple causing extensive damage to the church structure. No injuries reported as the building sustained total destruction while nearby homes and a school reported minor incidental impacts. City officials investigated the incident and estimated repair costs.
A United Brethren Church in Adamsville was struck by lightning at 11:30 this morning and destroyed by fire. The frame building, erected about two years ago, burned rapidly with a total loss estimated at 2500 dollars, partially insured. Firefighters and residents witnessed the blaze but could not save the church, the village's only house of worship.
