Journey Through Yellowstone Park July 9 1900

A six person party from Galesburg Illinois travels via Gardiner and Norris Basin to Mammoth Hot Springs July 2 to explore Yellowstone. They describe geysers terraces and scenic canyons, note railway extensions and military posts, and recount encounters with travelers and bears while awaiting monarch geyser and planning a month in the park.

King Edward leaves Victoria Station for Portsmouth to board the royal yacht King Edward. Queen Alexandra accompanies him in an ambulance as doctors and close attendants escort the monarch. The depot is cleared for the transfer and the train departs promptly.

The royal train reached Portsmouth in the afternoon and King Edward was soon placed aboard a yacht that will sail directly to Cowes where it will anchor.

Epileptic Man Struck By Train at Milford Junction

Coroner Hisenbeiss viewed the body of Jefferson Speicher 43 struck by a Baltimore and Ohio train at Milford Junction last night. Speicher, epileptic and often unbalanced, was found this morning about a quarter mile from the junction mutilated. His brother Charles Speicher cared for him but he slipped away unnoticed before night. A shriveled hand marked the body, a remnant of childhood scalding. Ten suspicious circumstances are listed in the report.

Lightning Strikes Harrison Township Killing 9-Year-Old Roscoe Weaver

A bolt of lightning crashed through the chimney into the sitting room of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Weaver’s home six miles west of Goshen. Nine-year-old Roscoe Weaver died instantly from electrical trauma as the family sat nearby. others escaped unharmed. The house suffered a direct hit and the funeral is set for tomorrow afternoon.

Case of Rohrer garnishment case before special judge

The case of the state versus D. H. Rohrer was on trial this afternoon before Special Judge Van Fleet. The suit, begun over a month ago and continued by agreement, tests Prosecutor Hile on a theory about garnishment in bonafide account sales and cross state transfers. The matter continued to August 5 by agreement of the parties.

Beckley Found Family Papers Recount 1878 Big Four Earnings

E B Beckley discovered his father’s papers showing in 1878 the Cincinnati Wabash and Michigan road earned $19 000 in one month. Since then Benton Harbor station has sometimes paid more than that. Beckley often did not take his own pay to ensure workers were paid.

Despair Leads Waiter to Attempt Suicide at Canen's

Victor Hill a waiter at Canen's restaurant swallowed chloroform and morphine after a broken romance. He was found in the rear of the building around six pm and revived by Dr. Lockwood. The favored woman, a hotel waitress, is said to have jilted him and left for Chicago.

Freight handlers end strike after union defeat

Chicago July 16. Freight handlers vote to return to work and seek terms with managers as Federation of Labor withholds support. Hundreds resume work at freight houses, congestion easing as 7,000 of 9,000 strikers return. Work will continue nights and days for about a week. Settlement follows state arbitration advice.
