Professional Beggars Arrested and Fined in City Jail
Four disorderly drunks, strangers to the city, were jailed last night by Officer Smith. They pled guilty before Judge Arnold this morning and received the usual fines and costs totaling ten dollars. They were believed to be professional beggars aided by a handless companion, and were turned out of town by Sargeant Dwight near the Lake Shore depot before being arrested. The crippled man was placed in the hobo cage while the rest pay fines on the stone pile.

Workmen clearing ground for a new lab addition cut down an historic cottonwood planted about thirty years ago by Mrs. Russ Davis. The tree, brought from South Bend, measured nearly two feet in diameter and yielded over three cords of four foot wood. Only this tree survived among the twigs Mrs. Davis brought.
