William Beattey of Indianapolis state organizer led a meeting of saloon keepers at Hotel Hascall in Goshen to form a local Licensed Saloon Keepers Union with officers W. S. Bitner president L. Wagner vice president E. H. Green secretary C. V. Walker treasurer Ora Williamson sergeant at arms J. C. Wiggins J. M. Gowling J. S. Hostetler trustees a similar union planned in Elkhart.
A city official criticizes the police department as demoralized and inactive for months. The piece alleges officers have pursued politics over duties while arrests against bawdy houses have been led by outside officers. It warns incumbents may be removed after elections. Mr and Mrs W C Davis returned from Joliet Illinois. Mr Harry Ewing of South Bend visited Mr F L Clark last evening. Mr J P Horton of Marion is visiting his brother Clarence Horton. Mr Rowland Chattan of Nappanee was in the city on business. L C Horn of Aspenwold avenue entertains his North Webster brother. Messrs F H Skilling and J S Buck of the Deering reaper company Chicago are in town for business.
