Lake Shore Brakeman Killed in Kendallville Train Wreck
James A. Eldred, a Lake Shore brakeman, died when engine 527 and its train left the track near Kendallville after a switch problem. The derailment buried Eldred for hours, with at least Cronk and Navarre injured, while wrecking crews and engineers responded. Eldred left a wife and several children and had worked for Lake Shore since 1887.

Obituary of Mrs Edward Stanley and husband in Osolo township
Mrs. Edward Stanley died at the family residence in Osolo township after a weeklong illness of pneumonia. She was born August 16, 1828 in Miami county Ohio and married April 29, 1848. Edward Stanley died February 1, 1892, two days after his wife, from the same disease. He was born August 11, 1820 in Kanawha county Virginia. The couple had five children, three surviving at the time, and were highly regarded in the community.
