From Tuesday's Daily Truth an assembly of Methodist Episcopal Church presiding elders gathers in this city for meetings in the central states Indiana Michigan Ohio Illinois Missouri Kentucky Wisconsin with over 150 elders expected and prominent laymen. The conference features scholarly papers and addresses by leaders including Dr J I Buell Rev A E Mahin Rev G J Luckey and Rev N L Bray.

Harry S. Chester of Elkhart Indiana issues an emphatic denial of circulating rumors that he accused the St Joseph Valley bank of being unsafe. He defends his reputation and urges publication of the denial. The statement is dated December 8 1892.
County Board of Commissioners accepts County Attorney Stonex opinion in Campbell versus Cornell. The decision favors Cornell and the case will go to circuit court on appeal by Campbell. Stonex cites the 1889 act destroying ballots and the Supreme Court opinion by Judge Vanfleet on evidence standards.
The court rules that the Canvassing Board’s return of 4,092 ballots for the plaintiff, 4,109 for the defendant, and 322 for Crabbs is conclusive. It holds the board’s action in counting ballots as judicial and conclusive, and that no evidence can contradict these returns in this proceeding.
The county canvassing board met at 10 30 at the Goshen courthouse with 37 of 52 members present. A heated debate followed over whether the board could rectify mistakes, leading to a resolution that the canvassing board be considered defunct, which failed 23 to 19 and left the matter to circuit court in a couple of weeks.
County Attorney Stonex gave an opinion to the Board of County Commissioners that they cannot review official returns or accept evidence from election boards. He cites Judge Vanfleet's Alvin Bechtel ruling and notes no Supreme Court precedent exists on a similar case. The commissioners are expected to act on this advice.
Rev. Augus tine Prentiss rector of St James church sails to Charleston D C after telegram warns of his aged father's poor health. He planned a winter rest in the south to recover health and resume clerical duties after Christmas. His brother Rev S E Prentiss of Elkhart will oversee duties in his absence.
