The Indiana Supreme Court reversed the Elkhart court ruling in State vs Simeon Field. Field was tried for murder in a dispute near Wakarusa that ended with Silas Bell fatally stabbed. The court found error in not instructing the jury on the applicable law, reversing the second degree verdict.
The First National Bank and Citizens Banks of Michigan City with the First National Bank of Laporte won an injunction against the county treasurer over a tax increase under the new law. The banks challenged an almost doubling assessment by the state board of equitization. The judge delivered a verdict favorable to the plaintiffs after arguments at the September term. The decision affects banks statewide in similar circumstances.
Mrs Frank Markley died at her home on Sherman Street at 4 45 this morning aged 23. Married last May she bore a premature child three weeks ago that lived only a few days. She is survived by her parents at Belven a brother George Woodard Jefer son Street and a sister Mrs J Cup pinger of North Wildhart. It notes growth from under forty miles in 1830 to 163597 in 1890.
