In Taunton Virginia on April 18 Mabel Pendleton 18 and Stuart Gay 16 of Clifton Forge attempted elopement to Washington. After crossing a foot bridge they leaped into the Jackson River forty feet below and were drowned. Bodies not recovered. The youth was the son of a Chesapeake and Ohio conductor.
Boston April 17 announces the end of a ten year romance spanning Europe and America. Ellen Beach Yaw renowned opera star has wed Veere Goldwaithe a Boston lawyer.
New York April 17 W B Leeds former Indiana magnate settled 113000 duty with customs on a quarter million dollar necklace bought for his bride abroad. The payment awaits court appeal as Leeds and both brides were seen in Europe amid reports of alimony and rival fashions.
A Chicago woman, Mrs Otis Johnson, was found murdered in bed early today with head severed and body hacked into pieces, authorities say a butcher knife and axe were used. Her husband was arrested hours later and held for investigation pending further inquiry.
