Citizens and lawyers dispute council action on street labor wages. The article notes a 1901 law setting unskilled public work at 20 cents per hour and forbidding weekly contracts below that rate. The Elkhart County Retail Druggists association held a Friday meeting in Goshen council chamber with strong attendance from Elkhart and representation from Middlebury and Bristol. Officers elected for the coming year are President Bert Houseworth Elkhart Secretary Charles Leonard Elkhart Treasurer Elmer Felt Elkhart. A special session in Elkhart next Friday will install the new officers.
Judge Ferrall will travel to Elkhart next Thursday to serve as arbitrator in the Allendale sewer controversy. He heirs of the Moorehouse estate and other property owners oppose assessments totaling about 12 000 dollars. The case involves the A D Roys as one of the heirs.
Emma R Huff of Bichart won a divorce from John C Huff on her cross petition. The court awarded custody of their 13 year old son and required the father to pay 2 per week support and 75 for attorneys fees and costs. The case detailed abandonment claims and a strained domestic situation. Willie Ponko, 14, faced truancy charges. Judge Ferralle gave him until the next school term to reform.
Gideon Hire of Benton sixteen miles from Goshen is missing from his home. He was last seen in the county treasurer's office Saturday when he went to pay his taxes. It is believed he possibly went to Elkhart and to drink liquor.

Des Moines reports a grisly double murder as the bodies of a 15 year old girl and 13 year old boy are found on a country road near Highland Park college. The victims are identified as children of Peter Peterson, a dairy man. Authorities say a black suspect was seen fleeing the scene and the motive is believed to be sexual assault of the girl with the boy killed to prevent exposure.
Brussels reports mounting unrest as socialist calls for universal suffrage intensify. The city remains quiet by day but fear of a revolution grows with widespread strikes and diminished support for King Leopold amid public discontent.
A terrific storm struck Berlin and surrounding areas causing widespread damage to buildings. Lightning caused fires and many railroad stations were cut off by rising waters. Streets flooded, traffic suspended, and schools closed due to impassable roads.

A local man William Coutts in Turkey asked for papers proving U S citizenship, with Jacob Fetterly sending papers earlier. Coutts writes he is en route to Philadelphia via Baltimore and will visit Elkhart upon return, promising interesting tales of his voyage.
Information from Elk Hart indicates the national machinists association will file formal demands for a nine hour workday and a 12 percent daily wage rise on April 20. Previously negotiations occurred between company and workers individually, but a collective submission is now expected.
Uncle George Pollock will go to the Soldiers Home at Lafayette tomorrow morning. The locomotive engineers of the eastern division will pay for an attendant to accompany him, Comrade Dygert of this city will be the attendant. Uncle George expresses deep obligation to those who assisted his welfare.
Mrs Mary Haberstick a widow living two miles south of the city died yesterday morning of dropsy. She leaves a sister Mrs Lena Stuckel at whose home she died and a brother Eugene Haberstick of Goshen. Funeral tomorrow at 9 from her late home with interment at Grace Lawn cemetery.
Washington April 15 The funeral services for Dr Talmage will be held at the Church of the Covenant this evening and the body will lie in the edifice until midnight. Afterward it will be taken to Brooklyn for interment with graveside rites only.
Fred Warner was released today after serving a sentence for trespassing on his former wife’s property near Bristol. An affidavit charging assault on Amelia Menges was filed earlier by Prosecutor Hile, but the warrant was held in abeyance pending Warner’s good behavior.
Springfield April 16 Stephen son Post G A R of this city will present to the state encampment at Rock Island a plan for perpetuation of the order by admitting Sons of members and other descendants to membership on the same plan as the Loyal Legion.
The long ago engaged Floyd A. Smitly and Vesta Belle Moulton completed a first wedding in St Joseph Michigan at 10 yesterday. A second ceremony will be performed by Rev Emnett at the Moulton home this afternoon at 4 with Mary Proctor as bridesmaid and Wayne Moulton as best man. Several relatives and friends from Mishawaka Hillsdale and Los Angeles are noted among expected guests.
In Turkey Creek township a special election on funding the Goshen Fit-Wayne electric line failed. Of 582 votes 313 opposed the subsidy, defeating it by 44 votes and likely cutting Syracuse from the proposed route.
At the republican convention last night a city ticket was nominated with Aaron S. Zook for mayor Or rin Watts treasurer Benjamin C. Benders clerk John BE Rigney marshal and Joseph M. Peters judge. The ticket is seen as neither especially weak nor strong.
