The South Bend Union denounces rumors that J. B. Stoll of Ligonier opposed Freeman Kelley and aided John H. Baker in a Congressional race. The editorial calls the accusations traitorous and unjust, praising Stoll as a patriot and guardian of party principles amid jealousy and pressure.
A moral exhortation warns that private conflicts fuel public strife. It argues the God of Peace forbids private war and urges individuals to cultivate patience for harmony in families churches and communities.

The Synod of Indiana North in LaPorte on October 17, 1874 adopts a report urging persistence in temperance policy. It remonstrates against efforts to repeal the Baxter law and calls for strengthening local option and liquor seller accountability.
The stated clerk of this Synod is instructed to communicate the preamble and resolutions to the presiding officers of both houses of the legislature when next in session. He shall supply copies to the public press of this city and Indianapolis for publication.
Akron Beacon notes Miss Charlotte Cushman, famed American actress, will close her career at Booth's Theatre with a grand November 7 program. Vandenhoff joins the cast. gifts, fireworks, and a floral Greek lyre tribute mark the farewell, with presidents and judges among the guests. Cushman, born 1816 in Boston, rose to top dramatic acclaim and remains premier in Shakespearean roles.
In New York two Democratic gatherings featured speeches by Governor elect Tilden and Senators Thurman Bayard Stockton Eaton among others. Speakers urged magnanimity and prudent use of power. At Tammany Hall John Kelley pressed for honest party governance and loyalty to the conservative Republican influence.
In incomplete returns Nevada voters elect Lieut. Gov Woodburn for the Democrats. A Republican wins Congress and the Legislature’s joint ballot majority ranges from fifteen to twenty for Republicans. Most of the State ticket favors Republicans except Bradley and Adams. The Globe predicts 1876 Democratic choice between Tilden and Pendleton. Tilden’s defeat in New York leaves Pendleton dominant in that camp.
