Tension between Lyceum Theatre and New Jersey Telephone Co escalated as rent disputes over a box office phone and roof line led to a service cut. Lawyer Nugent cut the distribution cable after notice to discontinue service, aiming to punish the phone company and disrupt dozens of local lines.
Nathan R. Leavitt of Leavitt & Atwater obtained a writ from Vice-Chancellor Emory in Newark Court of Chancery to compel the Board of Education M Byrnes Building Company and architect Clyde Adams to show cause why an injunction should not require removal of timber used in the new No 3 School. The suit claims inferior short leaf pine was used instead of long leaf yellow pine, risking devaluation and weak construction. the case centers on the school at South Seventh Street and Second Avenue with costs about 61428 and may be dropped after timber removal.

Thomas Johnson, a Plainfield man, was sentenced to seven years at hard labor in the State prison after pleading guilty to atrocious assault and battery with intent to kill his wife. Judge Atwater and Prosecutor Swift condemned the act as near murder, noting the wife’s injuries and diminished health. Johnson, visibly trembling, offered no remark and was sent back to jail pending transfer to Trenton.

Mrs Emily E Williamson of this city says she and Mrs C B Alexander resigned from the Crimes and Dependencies Commission because the work is finished. Commissioner Boom dissented with a minority report, and she clarifies resignations had no relation to Commissioner Ransom.
