Guardianship reforms urged for millions of children
Walter Shand reports from Washington on a national drive by the Children's Bureau to modernize guardianship laws for minor wards. It cites 750,000 under administration guardianship and 150,000 veterans' children, with costs exceeding 119 million for 600,000 babies and 160,000 more due. The proposal seeks model laws, worker training, and an education support program tied to GI benefits, plus improved court oversight and protection against mismanagement of estates and welfare.
