State Eyes Shift of Veterans to Mental Health Institute
The state board of control proposes a flexible care plan for veterans at Marshalltown Soldiers Home. Inmates needing mental care would be reassigned to Independence Mental Health Institute to ensure proper treatment, as the home lacks facilities for mental illness. Nearby, locals face property tax rises totaling nearly 300 million dollars next year, ITA reports, reflecting a 19 million increase based on 1,454 local budgets covering about 81 percent of 1958 taxes.
