Pioneer preacher roots and a vanished Indian hoard in Dover history
In 1849 Rev James Davis and family settled in Dover Township before moving to Lightville now Lima. The tale recounts early homesteads, a log cabin near Lights mill, a boy Ambrose Davis trapped in a hollow tree with a two gallon jug of whiskey and antique items, and notes on early preachers including John Brown and Simeon Clark. It also covers 1847 1848 tensions with the Delaware County Blackhawk purchase and a passage on local flour mills praising Elgin Roller Mills and Te Ehrlich.

West Union and Clesmone Prime Planned. Front Page Confusion
Telegraphic notes from Jefferson allege plots in Iowa and expose a web of deception surrounding West Union and ex government figures. The report names Charles F. Gulick posing as Julian Balgh, a Florida widow Mrs Armstrong, and hints at schemes to overthrow the republic, with lingering rumors of identity and crime.
