Elgin Canning Co completes season of corn packing

The Elgin Canning Company closed its 1967 corn pack at noon last Saturday September 9 with a very successful season. Secretary Eugene Schori reported the corn quality was high and 149000 cases were produced, 30000 more than last year. Labor and weather were favorable, no rain hindered picking, and work ran daily from 8 to 10. The plant opened August 6, 1967, with little carryover from last year. The firm, organized in 1883, has modernized equipment and remains one of the few remaining Iowa canneries, down from about 54 in earlier years.
