The Elgin Study Club began its year with a 40th anniversary observance at Mrs. Walter Falk’s home on Tuesday September 4. Retiring president Mrs. Belva Snyder installed new officers. charter member Mel Kohler spoke of the club’s early years, and a preview of this year’s program World Neighbors was presented by Guernsey Smith. A 100 percent towel hemming report was given, social hour followed, and next meeting at Elgin Lutheran church will feature a Decorah Luther College foreign exchange student as guest speaker.

Mr and Mrs Dennis Meyer returned home last Tuesday from a 16 day wedding trip. They visited in the homes of Mr and Mrs Fred Hanson and and Mrs Art Nelson, Los Angeles Calif. Mrs Nellie Cashman and Mr and Mrs Spahr Cashman, Reseda Calif. and Dianne Frieden at Lagoona Beach. They went to Marine Land Knott's Berry Farm Disney land also to Reno Nevada Mexico Colorado and Kansas.

Entertained Missionary Society at Lehman Home

The Baptist Missionary Society met at Mrs. Max Lehman's home last Wednesday with assisting hostess Mrs. Clara Baumgartner. Vice president Mrs. Eldon Schroeder presided in Mrs. Harry Johnson's absence. Schroeder opened with devotions from Isaiah 45 verse 22 and led prayer. Members contributed to the program, including Mrs. John Schaer and Mrs. Edward Krueger. Secretary Metta Krueger read letters from Mrs. J. G. Draewell of Philadelphia and Mrs. A. D. Schantz of Colorado. Twenty-one members answered roll call with Bible verses. The Rev. Eldon Schroeder offered the closing prayer.

Avon tour group visits Morton Grove factory complex

Mrs Melbert Baechler joined Avon district manager Joyce Bushby and 37 Avon representatives from eight NE counties for a guided tour of Avon facilities in Morton Grove Illinois including the factory laboratory and distribution center described as the world's largest cosmetic company. The branch spans seven and a half acres and employs about 1000 people. The group dined with Avonue on Monday and returned home Monday evening.

Elgin Local News reports Mrs Charles Gehring and Kathy attended a Rainbow installation at Lamont on Sunday afternoon. Marilyn Parmely was installed as Worthy Advisor while Mrs Gehring served as installing recorder. Guests included Fanny Frieden Ida and several local families observing birthdays and illnesses. Various visits and social events follow with neighbors and relatives from Aurora Arlington Manchester and Cedar Falls. Rev and Mrs Eldoin Schroeder hosted young people from First Baptist Church for a Sunday evening singalation with refreshments after singing. Albert Klingman visited Ray Klingman in Volga on Wednesday Sept 5. Last week Mrs Albert Halverson stayed with the Robert Bemiss and George Schroyer families at Harper's Ferry from Saturday to Monday, hosting Friday supper for Mrs Anh Dennier. Mrs Mary Tatro of Clermont visited Mrs Albert Halverson last Wednesday. Mrs Alvin Buroden of Postville and Bonnie and Dixie joined coffee guests there Tuesday afternoon.

Progress Club Opens New Year at Elgin Methodist

The Elgin Progress Club met at the Methodist Church at 6 30 pm with 19 members attending a cancel led trip to Schori Falls due to cold weather. New members Mrs Ernest Hilgemann and Mrs Joseph Leehy were welcomed and Mrs Derryl Leonhart presented Our Feathered Friends. The roll included humorous summer memories as Mrs Harry Johnson led hymn singing.
