Income gaps in Iowa farming regions shown by study
A study by the State University of Iowa found eastern Iowa farmers earn higher income per farm and per acre than other regions. It notes high gross farm incomes concentrate in eastern and western Iowa counties, with southern Iowa showing lower totals, based on 1948 to 1967 data led by Ethel Vatter. A separate item reports Governor Erbe urging home rule for cities to manage local affairs and finances. A Polk County judge dismissed a tax suit seeking immediate statewide property value increases, while a bid processing overhaul by the Iowa Highway Commission will use electronic computing to handle bids from Sept. 11, reducing manual work.
