The Elgin Echo Dial lists subscription rates and territory for readers in four northeast Iowa counties at 2.00 per year and 2.60 per year outside the area. It notes second class mail status and the 1891 post office act provisions.
A lengthy roster of homecoming registrants includes families and individuals from Dubuque Cedar Rapids Des Moines and many other cities. Names such as H R Albright Emil Dennler Floyd Boyle C L Kiple Leo Sutter and Lena Borchardt appear along with multiple couples and extended families across Iowa Minnesota Wisconsin Illinois South Dakota California and Michigan.
After a picnic dinner a short program was led by Mrs. Glenn McKellar with letters from Klingman relatives in Germany and California read aloud. Ray Klingman explained a six generation family tree while noting the reunion will be biennial on the third Sunday in August and a centennial cake from Mrs. Fred Klingman was shared. All five children of Martin Klingman Jr. attended, with Alice Yearaus the eldest and Steven Kauten the youngest.
Descendants of Louis Martin Klingman Jr and Li cet Klingman Ernst gathered at Elkader shelter house on Sunday August 21 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Klingman arrival in Iowa. Relatives from Elgin Strawberry Point Fort Wayne and other towns registered for centennial mementos, listing numerous Klingman family members across multiple households and states.
Community program lists 8:00 PM sessions on four consecutive dates covering beef quality beef feeding buying and selling beef hog finishing and marketing and a later session on dairy marketing, inviting interest from local growers and producers.

The Class of 32 BE H S held a successful reunion at the school grounds on Saturday evening August 20 with fifteen of the twenty one class members present. Prizes were awarded for longest distance least hair most gray hair youngest looking man and woman most unusual occupation and more. Members attending with families included Robert Steele George Andertson Clara Shaffer Cleve Bennett Harold Conner Lawrence Grimm Alice Howard Lola Elvers Betty Light Phyllis Peterson Pearl Lyons Lantz Selma Knudtson Landsgard Elizabeth McMillan Kathryn Strauch Waters plus guests Mrs Aldora Anderson and L Myra of Clermont. Plans were made to meet every three years at homecoming.
Thirteen exhibits in the Fayette county 4 H Home Ec Clubs section at the 1955 Iowa State Fair earned awards in the Girls department. Six Foods and Nutrition entries won blue ribbons, six earned red ribbons, and one finished in white. Winners include Sheila Messerli of Wadena for Cookies, Karen Schroeder of Clermont for Blue Plain Cake, Belva Brandt of Clermont for Angel Food Cake, Jeanette Osmundson for Jelly, and more with red ribbon placements for Clover Clovers and diligent entries.
Iowa turkey raisers estimate a total of 4,449,000 birds for 1955, about 3 percent under last year's 4,587,000 record. Heavy breeds reach 4,173,000, up 4 percent from 4,006,000 a year earlier, while light breeds total 276,000, six percent of the crop, well below 581,000 in 1954.

Sidney Neuenschwander aged 47 of Ellesworth died suddenly at his home on Friday August 26. He was born in Elgin and spent his boyhood days here. He was the nephew of Mrs. Albert Schori. Mr. and Mrs. C B Schori attended the funeral on Monday.
H J Miller 72 of Cedar Rapids died Sunday afternoon Aug 28 after a two week illness. Funeral services were at St Joseph's Church Elkader Wednesday and burial there. The Millers, former Central City residents, owned Vitalife Co now moved to Cedar Rapids. Helen Bauer of Elgin Grill came to Cedar Rapids a week to help her sister Mrs Miller.
Local winners were named in breed contests at the county fair. In Shorthorns Robt. Kerr Jr led with two awards for B and Tony Habeger earned two for Terry Habeger. Christen siblings Paul and David won one each, Karolyn Kerr and De lores Kerr captured red and white, Lyle Medberry earned red, Delores Kerr received breed champion. In Angus Carlton Krueger won a white ribbon, Richard Frieden took two red ribbons, and Eugene earned additional recognition.

Pfc Edwin R Gage 22 wife Virginia and parents live in Wadena recently completed a NATO field training exercise in Germany. His unit Headquarters Battery 291st Field Artillery Battalion acted as group HQ. Gage joined July 1954 trained at Camp Chaffee Ark arrived Europe March 1955 and is a 1952 Wadena High School graduate.
