Third Party Impact Varies in 1948 Iowa Race
Political observers expect the Progressive party to have limited influence in the November ballot in Iowa. Henry Wallace may garner about 50,000 votes statewide, while down-ballot third-party bids are seen as far weaker. Gillette leads in the Senate race against Wilson, with labor and Republican strategies focusing on different regions to boost their candidate totals. Public push for repealing the lifetime county assessor appointments grows, with Iowa Grange urging repeal and county Farm Bureaus weighing in.
