Poorly Adjusted Picker Costs Farm Yield

Proper adjustment and careful operation of corn pickers can cut losses enough to pay for harvesting. Mechanical studies show losses from 2.5 to 13 percent depending on picker type and conditions. With 70 bushels per acre, a 10 percent loss at $1.50 per bushel equals $10.50 per acre, potentially covering harvesting costs.

Experimental study notes corn losses by picker type

experimental studies show mounted pickers tend to lose more corn than pull-type pickers. The lowest shelling losses occurred with the single-row pull-type machine. Prices of farm products decline before other prices, leaving few gaps as possible. Beho Want Ads: New.
