Local public notice from Elgin Iowa Fayette County dated September 1 1891 announces second class mail registration under the act of March 3 1852. It references the Elgin post office and billing details for mail delivery. The legibility is partial but identifies the period and official registry.
Elgin Iowa notes list petit jurors for November term, local incidents, school district financials for quarter ending Sept 30 1951, including accounts with town, bank, suppliers and salaries. Also reports large 17 pound mushroom found and social events at Elgin.
Mrs Henry Feller has been ill and confined to her home the past week. Several neighbors and relatives visited including Clifford Feller from Waterloo and Mrs F R Feller of St Olaf. A family birthday gathering occurred at Lulu Schmid’s home with Mr and Mrs J Charles Knight of Janesville joining Mrs Schmid. Dec 15 1851 land grant to James Berthold for 160 acres in Madison county noted as a long family residence.
Mrs Emma Barr of Tabor has built a notable quilting career over 25 years finishing 800 quilts. Her handiwork appears in many states. A separate brief reports Mrs Wilson Miller of Sigourney losing a leg after a steam explosion in a laundry heater caused a fire. The leg was amputated at Oskaloosa hospital.

A separate report notes a rail accident on the Great Western line near Elma where 23 freight cars piled up in a sequence after one car derailed, sparking a multi-car derailment along the right of way.
